Counseling psychology addresses the emotional, social, work, school and physical health concerns people may have at different stages in their lives, focusing on typical life stresses and more severe issues with which people may struggle as individuals and as a part of families, groups and organizations. It focuses on how people function both personally and in their relationships at all ages. Counseling psychologists help people with physical, emotional and mental health issues improve their sense of well‐being, alleviate feelings of distress and resolve crises. They also provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of more severe psychological symptoms.

Generally speaking, sessions are held on a weekly basis. This allows the relationship between the therapist and client to develop better as the therapy is regular and consistent, and so the client gets a faster and deeper understanding of their experiences. In some cases they may take place on a fortnightly basis by agreement with your therapist.

Psychological assessment is a process of testing that uses a combination of techniques to help arrive at a diagnosis and guide treatment.
In many ways, psychological testing and assessment are similar to medical tests. If a patient has physical symptoms, a primary care provider may order X-rays or blood tests to understand what’s causing those symptoms. The results of the tests will help inform develop a treatment plan. Psychological evaluations serve the same purpose.

I also offer the option of group sessions, which is a form of psychological support in which a therapist works with a small number of people together as a group. Up to 8 individuals meet face-to-face with the trained group therapist and work through issues important to each individual but as a group.

Contact Dr. Ornella Lastrina by phone or email to book your first session.
